The Carson Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) seeks to:

• serve the communities of the Rio Grande West Rim;

• protect and save lives and property to the best of their ability, whenever possible;

• help increase community fire safety;

• provide resources to the community on fire safety issues.

While our main service area is the West Rim area from north of Two Peaks to south of the Carson Post Office, the CVFD covers a region extending from the west side of Taos County to the west of the Rio Grande.

The current Fire Chief (as of mid 2021) is Scott Freeman. Scott also serves on the Carson Firewise Committee and was elected CCA Vice President (as of end August 2021).

The CVFD is housed at 499 State Highway 567, in Carson, New Mexico. As an organization serving a small rural area, operating under the CCA’s 501(c)3 non-profit umbrella, the CVFD is always seeking help and financial support from generous individuals and organizations from within and outside of the area served.

CVFD, previously named Carson Volunteer Fire & Rescue, was founded in 2010 through the efforts of then Carson Community Association board members and other Carson community members: Art Wilbur, Terry Wolff, Elizabeth Brownrigg, Elisabeth Maier, Sharon Wilbur, Gerry Boxberger, and Rob Hughes. The CVFD was active even before being officially recognized by the state, and helped train and still supports the Ojo Caliente Fire Department.
